Iran agrees breakthrough nuclear deal (Neutral)

Six world powers and Iran have agreed a breakthrough deal to wind back the country’s progress towards building a nuclear bomb in exchange for a sweeping reversal of international economic sanctions, bringing to a close nearly a decade of isolation for the Islamic republic.

US President Barack Obama welcomed a “comprehensive long-term deal with Iran that will prevent it obtaining a nuclear weapon” and reduce the chances of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

“The deal is not built on trust, it’s built on verification,” he said in a televised statement delivered at the White House.
Mr Obama said he also welcomed Congressional scrutiny but would veto any legislation that prevented implementation of the agreement. “I believe it would be irresponsible to walk away from this deal,” he said.
